1949 Model Royal Typewriter
Furman Bisher's ancient Royal typewriter became famous when folks realized he
was still pecking away on it in the 21st century. He never learned to type by the book, but could hit about 80 words per minute using just his two index fingers. When he died, his reliable 1949 model Royal shared the office with his modern Apple laptop, but both were used regularly. He donated the venerable Royal to his alma mater, the University of North Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
